Taurekareka Wins Waimairi Handicap At New Brighton.

PASSES POST TWO LENGTHS IN FRONT OF FIGHT EVER.

WITH a lead of two lengths from Fight Ever, Taurekareka won the Waimairi Handicap, the big event at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting to-day.

Ths New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting was concluded to-day. Rain fell during the morning, but the weather improved before noon, and the races started under pleasant conditions. Bryce) 0 Taurekareka took charge at the start, and at the end of a furlong he was just showing out from Billy Sea, Fight Ever and Ouimet At the end of three furlongs, Fight Ever had taken charge, with Taurekareka heading the others. This was still the order with half the journey gone, where the whole field was running with short intervals between the horses. Waitaki Girl moved up when leaving the straight. A little further on Taurekareka joined Fight Ever in the lead. They were four lengths in front of Billy Sea and Away at the home turn. Waitaki Girl then moved up fast. Taurekareka was out clear a furlong from home, with Waitaki Girl next, but the latter broke, leaving Taurekareka to win by two lengths from Fight Ever, who beat Billy Sea by a length, with Bonny Logan Hose up fourth. Billy Whizz was showing the way to Erin’s Royal at the end of half a mile, with Alvira, Binscarth, Locanda General, Sungleam and Jean M’Elwyn heading the others. Two furlongs further on Alvira was in second place, but he broke at the half-mile post, where Binscarth joined Billy Whizz in the lead. Billy Whizz retired before reaching the straight, Binscarth going on in front, while Erin's Royal headed a big bunch, with High Jinks, Epigram and Kotuku Jack close up.
