PERSONALS.

Sir Thomas M’Kenzie, M.L.C., and Sir James Allen, M.L.C., have returned to Wellington, from the South Island. Mr F. R. Cooke will be tendered a welcome home in the Trades Hall on Thursday evening. Mr H. D. Acland returned to Christchurch yesterday after a short business trip to Wellington. The Rev D. G. Falconer, of Brooklyn, has been elected aS the new Moderator of the Wellington Presbytery. Mr J. Steer, chairman of the Greymouth Harbour Board, is in Christchurch attending the jubilee celebrations of the Lyttelton Harbour Board. Mr 11. Chapman, District Traffic Manager, N.Z.R., is ill at prscent. He will be away from duty probably for a month. Captain C. Til. Renaut, surveyor of ships at Lyttelton, has been appointed Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at that port. Captain A. L. Chrisp will fill the vacancy. Messrs A. T. Donnelly, W. T. Sim, and L. W. Gee left for Dunedin yesterday on business connected with the law examinations of the University of N.ew Zealand. The Rev B. 11. Ward, who has been librarian of Victoria College for the past seventeen years, has resigned that position. The Library Committee passed a resolution expressing its warm appreciation of Mr Ward’s services. In accepting the resignation, the Victoria College Council heartily endorsed the resolution of the committee.

Mr L. W. Louisson, clerk of courts at Hokitika, has been appointed registrar of the Supreme Court at Greymouth. Sir Charles Iloldsworth, and Sir Heaton Rhodes were arrivals by this morning’s ferry. The Rev A. H. Coleman, vicar of St Aidan’s Anglican Church, Remuera, who has been on a six months’ visit to the Old Country, has returned to Auckland. At the annual prize distribution at the Burwood School, Mr L. B. Bradstock, the head master, was the recipient of two presentations, one from the pupils of Standard V. and the other from Standard VI. Mr W. Spence, district manager of the Government Insurance Department at Christchurch, is promoted to be chief clerk at the head office. The Christchurch management will be undertaken by Mr A. P. King, of the Wellington office. Mr T. Forsyth, M.P., who has been indisposed for several weeks past, was welcomed by members of the Wellington Educational Board, and wishes were expressed for his quick restoration to the best of health, when he presided at the last monthly meeting of the board. Several changes will shortly take place in the teaching staff of the Wellington College. Air A. C. Gifford will retire at the end of the school year. Mr F. M. Renner will take charge of the Rongotai School, to which Mr J. T. M’Caw will be transferred.
