FLORENCE MASTERS SHOT N.Z. BOXER IN SELF DEFENCE. By* Telegrabh.—Press Assn.—Copyright Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 16, 10.35 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 16. Florence May Masters was found not guilty on a charge of murdering the former well-known New Zealand boxer, Billy Chambers. The jury held that she shot him in self-defence, when he rushed at her. Miss Masters, a barmaid, aged twenty-four, was living with Chambers, who it was alleged ill-treated her. Chambers was the victim of an amazing gang attack some time ago, when, following his interference in a street fight, a gang of razor slashers entered his bedroom bv the window', attacked him while he slept, and slashed him. Their object apparently was to cut a tendon and thus prevent his boxing again. However, they failed and Chambers recovered, onlv to receive a bullet in the abdomen, the fatal shot being fired bv Miss Masters.
