IT. Gillett, Count Cavour, Satrap and \loney Order; If. Cutts, Centrepiece, Front Rank and Childsplay; P. V. Mason, Agrion, Eulalie and Golden ArTiour; 11. Davis, Footfall and Paperbase; G. J. Pine, Don Jose and Paper Boy; 11. Nurse, Rapier; F. Christmas. Martarma. This is in every way one of he strongest teams that has representd Riccarton at an Auckland meeting .or a long time past. •* * * * A. E. Ellis has taken up his residence t Riccarton, from which convenient centre he can travel north or south it will. He was at Woodville last .veek, while to-morrow he wall be ridng at the Oamaru meeting at Winga:ui. lie has a full list of engagements, including Wharncliffo, Taboo, Money Mine, Solrose, John Bradbury, and a ■ Novice Stakes candidate, i * * * • i During the approaching holidays A. E. Ellis will be riding in the North Island. He will do the three days of the Manawatu meeting, after which he will be at Wairarapa for one day, winding up with two days at Marton. This programme of six days’ racing should provide plenty of opportunities for retaining his place at the head of the winning jockeys for the season. * * * * The Oamaru Jockey Club missed a good opportunity when it dropped the hurdle race at its meeting, in favour of a jumpers’ flat race. There appear to be plenty of hurdlers about at present. * * * * Whamcliffe is rated very moderately in the Jumpers’ Flat Handicap at the Oamaru meeting. He has no form so far as flat races are concerned. Battlement and Ark Royal will attract a lot of attention in the Oamaru Cup. After getting through their engagements they will probably leave early next week for Auckland, where the Auckland Cup will engage their attention on Boxing Day. The Te Awamutu Cup, to be decided on Saturday, has attracted a big field, among whom are the Auckland Cup candidates, Te Monanui, Delightment, Phaola. Eden Hall, Gala Day, Mint Leaf, Papatu, Desert Glow, and Ballachulish. The presence of these horses should make for interesting sport. 4* * m Desert Glow looks hard to beat in the Te Awamutu Cup. # # * * Aussie and Paganelli, two brilliant ! sprinters, with admirers for the Auckland Railway Handicap, are booked to race in the Flying Handicap at the Waipa meeting. The event should be one of great interest. * * * * Pink Note, who has an engagement in the Oamaru Cup, is one of the popular fancies for the Invercargill Cup, the most valuable race on the southern holiday circuit. * * * * The imported mare. Celerity 11., created a favourable impression when she won the Win ton Cup, and further successes should come her way later. She may be accorded a nomination in the Wellington Cup, to be decided next month. ❖ ❖ * i'fi Money Mine showed useful hack form at the South Canterbury meeting, and he may add to his record during the next few weeks. w * * * The Southland mare, Flying Mist, was a disappointment last season, but she has been racing well lately, and she may be worth keeping in mind for holiday engagements. T v v E. J. Ellis has taken charge of Money Mine, Miss Trillion and Singer, and in the meantime he will train the. trio for Mr J. M. Samson at Wingatui. * * * According to reports from Dunedin, Battlement and Receipt are definitely booked for a visit to Auckland, while Set Sail, also from C. Geiseler’s stable, may accompany the other pair. With Ark Royal also under orders for the north, southern interests will be strongly represented at the Auckland Racing Club's meeting.

According to reports from the south, the Tractor mare Wingatui now looks a little more robust in condition than when raced earlier in the season.

* * * * . Royal Saxon has been going along satisfactorily since he raced at the New Zealand Cup meeting, where his form was somewhat disappointing.

sje * sji * Dismantle looked a bit light, and ragged when raced at the end of the New Zealand Cup meeting, but has since filled out into more pleasing shape.

Ark Royal showed reluctance to gallop right-handed when worked at Wingatui in company with Battlement on Tuesday morning, but he travelled smoothly enough when doing half-pace work left-handed over a couple of circuits with Whitirangi the following morning. * * * * The three-year-old Great Charter is spoken of in the North Island as a colt likely to race well in the Auckland Cup. On form a shorter distance than two miles will suit him. * ■* •# * Present indications point to the three-year-olds. Cimabue. Gascony and Paganelli being prominent in the Auckland Railway Handicap. TROTTING NOTES. Acceptances for the first day of the Westport Trotting Club’s meeting will close to-night. * * * # Nominations for the summer meeting of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club will close at noon on Monday. * ★ + * Forfeits for the Sapling Stakes, to be run at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting next June, are due at five o’clock on Monday evening. •* * * * Nominations for the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting will close at nine o’clock on Monday night. * >Jc # * * J. J. Kenncrley has tired of the pacer Tfomclight and proposed to return him to his owner, but the unreliable pacer has now gone into C. Donald’s stable. ♦ * * * J. J Kennerley’s son, J. R. KennerIcy, left here a few months ago to try his luck in Melbourne with a couple of horses. He was not successful in Australia, and he is returning at the end of the week with Sparkling Pronto and Princess Dillon. He will join his father again in the training of his large*

During the running of the second division of the Novice Handicap recently at Richmond (Victoria), Second Voyage, owned by Miss Walsh, of Essendon, showed signs of illness. A veterinary surgeon was called in after the race and subsequently announced that the horse appeared to have been doped.

TRENTHAM NOTES. From Our CorroopondentWELLINGTON, December 15. Just sufficient rain fell overnight at Trentham to make the track in good order for work this morning, although naturally it was not fast. The centre of the trial grass was in use. The weather was mild and fine at five o’clock, but just when work was being concluded. rain fell again. Burnt Note (Paper Money—Afterglow) was the first to work. With a good weight up, he strode out well over half a mile, and looks a much improved two-year-old. He was not sent against time. Mark Mint was not extended to run half a mile in 52*sec. Catkin and Bourse finished together at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 32 3-ssec. Catkin looks a letter horse for his racing at Woodville. Bourse is in good order, and is to race at Tau herenikau. Lausanne and Exhibition jumped away at the seven furlong post, running the first half-mile in 52sec and the full distance in lmin 34sec. Lausanne was not doing bis best over the last part of the gallop. Deluge bowled along over half a mile in 51 2-ssec, going very freely and well Flying Binge and Concentrate were mates over a half-mile dash, which took 51 2-ssec. The former was in front in the early part, but the Australian colt, who was on the outside, was level with her at the winning-post. Joy Bird and Irish Lad jumped away at the mile post, keeping together for four furlongs in 53sec. Then Joy Bird comxnericed to draw away, and she finished ten lengths- in front of her mate in lmin 48 2-ssec. Irish Lad loafed over the concluding part, and Joy Birl could possibly have done better. Kindle and Oratrix were together all the way over seven furlongs in lmin 32 l-ssec, the first half-mile taking 52sec. Both mares look well. Mandarine was given an easy five furlongs in lmin 9sec. Skybird 11. and Black-Eyed Sue sprinted from the half-mile post, the last three furlongs taking 41sec. Panther just loafed in a gallop over half a mile in 57sec. Fie looks healthy and well "and in good order for holiday racing. Cosmetic ran half a mile easily in 53sec, and Tone took two seconds longer over a similar course. Cosmetic looks particularly well, and may win a race during the holidays. Wet Paint, Shot Silk and Wild Pigeon were given easy tasks. . Shot Silk ga loped a smart, half-mile yesterday. He and Wild Pigeon, who is rather 6ore, go to Palmerston North, and with Grand Knight and Staghunter will be at Awapuni for their fin at work for the holiday racing. Grand Knight and Staghunter will go on to Auckland on December 21. Staghunter will be ridden in the Foal Stakes at Ellerslie by R. MTavish. Radion and Town Major finished together at the end of a spint over half a mile in 52 2-ssec.

Royal Game was given a working gallop over a mile, running his last four furlongs in 55sec. He looks in good order, and if it should rain during the holidays, his chance for a stake will be extra bright. The Dove and Shona sprinted three furlongs in 39 2-ssec. Australis, who looks bright and well, was given an easy round.

Black Mint was not asked to go fast, and appears still to be cramped in his action.

Arch Arrow put a break on Dainty Ways when they jumped away at the four furlong barrier, but he stopped a little at the end, and they finished together in 51sec. Gascony has continued to gallop -well at Woodville, and probably will start one of the favourites in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie. 11. Neagle’s horses have been at Woodville since the meeting there. Cimabue has gone on the right way, and the two-year-olds, Ridgemount, Pari, The Earth and Amplifier, have all done well in their work. Although Ridgemount will have many hackers in Hawke’s Bay when he meets Childsplay at Ellerslie, an independent judge, who has watched him work at Woodville, states that he does not think Ridgemount will even get a place in the Foal Stakes.

Mr C. E. Elgar’s horses will be raced at the Manawatu and Wairarapa meetings during the holidays. These include Licinius, David Garrick, Vertigern, Banket and Lucky Days.

TROTTING CLUB AND ITS BALANCE-SHEET. fr TIMARU AND BALANCE-SHEETS. “ It’s quite time the association took a stand in this matter. The Timaru Club is a frequent offender, and it seems as if it is only trying to defy the board,” said the chairman of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association (Mr J. H. Williams) last night, when the Timaru Trotting Club forwarded a copy of its balance-sheet on paper other than the required form. The club applied for approval of {lie programme for its summer meeting. The programme was approved subject to the statement of accounts being shown on the form required by the association’s rules. The chairman added that the secretary of the board had had considerable trouble with the club over the same matter. The secretary: Yes; it was a bit over the odds one time. We had to write repeatedly to get them to comply with the rules. Looking up the correspondence files for last year, the secretary gave about six dates upon which he had written to the club asking that their balancesheet should be on the association’s form. The motion for approval of t.he programme subject to the rules being complied with was carriel unanimously. FORBURY PARK TROTTING CLUB. Per Press Associate n. DUNEDIN, December 15. The Forbury Park Trotting Club has changed the dates of its summer meeting from January 26 and 28 to January 27 to 28.
