SENATORS DENY RECEIVING MONEY FROM MEXICO.

William Randolph Ilearst furnished the Senate Investigating Committee with documents purporting to show that the fund provided by President Calles, of Mexico, was for four United States Senators, named James Heflin, of Alabama, Robert La Follette. of Wisconsin. William E. Borah, of Idaho, and George Norris, of Nebraska, . Dudley Field Ma-
was named as the Mexican financial agent.
Immediately their names were mentioned, Senators Borah, Heflin and La Follette appeared before the committee and denied that they had ever received money from such a source, or been approached by anyone who might have been interested in such an offer. Senator Norris was ill at home, but friends denied the charge on his behalf and moved to secure a statement from him.
Hearst newspapers declared that four United States Senators, who were then unnamed, had received money from President Calles, of Mexico, in consideration of services rendered Mexico in the United States Legislature. James Thomas Heflin was elected Senator on November 1, 1920. Robert La Follette v;as elected Senator at the last elections. following the death of his father, the famous Socialist. Senator Borah has been a Senator since 1907, and is one of the best known figures in American politics. George William Norris, who has been Senator since 1913, is a 'Republican and has long been prominent in politics. All arc lawyers by' profession.
