REP. CRICKETERS.

To the Editor. Sir,—The team to play against Otago will be announced on Saturday, and it is to be hoped that the selectors have had the courage to drop the failures of last season and give the 3-ounger plaj’--ers a chance. There are a good many of them worth a trial, and one who would certainly be worth his place is Doreen as wicket-keeper. With the exception of Page and Merritt, Read is the only one of last year’s representatives who has any real claim to a place in this year’s team.—l am, etc., WICKET. P.S.—Since the above was written, I have seen the team suggested by a writer in the “Star.” I would like to ask this question: if Oliver’s 87 not out proves him to be such a solid batsman that he cannot be left out of the tehm, why should Cunningham be dropped in view of the figures he got last Saturday? and why should Read, who has always been worth his place in the team, be dropped"? It would be far better to drop Oliver for the season, and give him a chance to strike form again. I don’t think Gregory is entitled to a place either just because of a few good club scores. So far as the wicket-keeper is concerned, I think it will be found that Doreen has a much bigger bag of wickets this season than Hayes. Boon is, or should be, out of the running.— Wicket.
