XMAS HAMPER COMPETITIONS NOT ALLOWED.
POLICE PROSECUTION SAID TO BE PENDING. Police prosecutions are pending, it is understood, against clubs and school committees that have been running Christmas hamper competitions. While in the past no opposition has been raised against these, competitions, the police now hold that they are illegal, and are taking proceedings against the promoters. Twelve or more of the competitions have been running during the , last week or two in Christchurch. One large organisation in the city, which has been selling many tickets for a competition, has sent out notices to the sellers to return the .tickets without delay.
