A conference was held last night between representatives of the Heathcote County Council, the Christchurch City Council, the New Brighton Borough Council and the Christchurch Tramway Board regarding work on Page’s Road. It was decided to hold the discussion in committee and the Press representatives were told that the conference was a round-the-table one.
Letters have been received by the North Canterbury Hospital Board from several of the county councils protesting against the increase in the levy, stated a report of the Finance Committee yesterday. “It is necessary that it should be understood that there Teas a deficiency of several thousands of pounds to be made up in. connection with last year’s expenditure, and also in this year provision had to be made for the maintenance of the new maternity and cottage hospitals that have just been completed.'* continued the report. “The demand for these institutions came from the country districts, where it is well known that the use made of them cannot possibly make them self-supporting.”
