POTATO GROWERS OF ASHBURTON ASK FOR “BRITISH FAIR PLAY.”
Per Press Association. ASHBURTON. June 23. The potato growers of Ashburton met last evening to protest against the importation of Tasmanian potatoes into New Zealand. The following resolution will be sent to the Ministers of Agriculture and Customs: —“This meeting, representing the potato growers of Ashburton County, emphaticallv' protests against the importation of Tasmanian potatoes. Ifj the importation continues, growers will be forced to market their potatoes well under the cost of production. Australia prohibits New Zealand potatoes without any sound reason. In 1923 growers here were faced with the same [ unfair competition. The Commonwealth protects its small farmer. SureIv ours can do the same and give us British fair play.”
