WESTMINSTER STREET ONE OF THE WORST.

To the Editor. Sir, —At the present moment Westminster Street East is in a terrible condition with mud and slush 6 inches deep. Little children cannot cross the road without getting over top in muci. It‘s someßirng like an old fashioned muddy country road, instead of a main road. People walking on the footpath often are splashed with mud, and this we pay rates for. Some of us think it’s time some metal or shingle was put on to make matters a little better. The council appear not to care. It’s time some of thenv- made an inspection of the disgusting conditions. If the engineer lived here he would soon remedy it, we think. The whole unsatisfactory state of affairs continues and yet we pride ourselves on being most up-to-date, whereas our present roads, outside the city belts, are the worst kept in New Zealand.—Yours, etc., A RATE PAYE R.
