HOSPITAL DENTAL DEPARTMENT HAS A BUSY MONTH.

RECORD MADE IN NUMBER OF OPERATIONS. The month of May was a record one fo-r the Dental Department of the Christchurch Hospital. 1521 operations being performed, stated Mr R- A. Ferguson, senior dental surgeon, in his report to the North Canterbury Hospital Board to-day. The report stated:— Numlier of fillings 037 Number of dressings 184 Number of other operations 034 Number of operations tinder anaesthetics 291 Total number of operations ... - 1562 Patients supplied with artificial j dentures (115 dentures) 72 Total number of attendances .... 2188 Numlier of fresh patients examined 722 This has been a record month for the department. Practically all above figures eclipse any previous ones, particularly anaesthetic operations, dehture work, total attendances and new patients examined. . . The usual number of new patients per month is between 300 and 400. During the month the department made an examination of the pupils of the Deaf and Dumb Institute, approximately 100, and they will be attended to shortly.
