CRICKET COUNCIL.

LETTER SENT TO AFFILIATED ASSOCIATIONS. The following letter, from the Manugement Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council, has been sent to the various affiliated associations:— For some considerable time past the Management Committee has had under consideration a proposal that the constitution of the council should be amended so as to provide for one direct representative of each of the affiliated associations attending the annual meeting of the council. The original formation of the New Zealand Cricket Council in Jb94 only provided for the major associations, but since that date cricket has grown enormously throughout the Dominionuntil it must be admitted to-day that the minor associations now play a very considerable part in the cricket of this L °lt' may be assumed that the founders of the council, while compelled by the limitation of funds to restrict the active management of the game to local residents of the headquarters of the council, always anticipated that the exchange of matches between major associations would provide ample opportunity to confer with the cricketers and With separate competitions for the Blanket Shield anil Hawke Cup. it is clear that there is very little opportunity to-day for the minor association representatives to meet personally members of the major associations or members' of the New Zealand Cricket Council. It: is felt by the Management Committee that the control of the game will in-ncfit by representatives of both major and minor associations coming to thus giving all parts of the Dominion men!, "of the game. It is not intended to alter the position of the present resident delegates who would still attend all at the annual meeting, along with the direct representatives. The matter was !.f delegates, who unanimously approved of the proposal, and I am now requested by the committee to submit the matter for your association’s consideration. It is estimated the total cost of delegates from all parts will be approximately £IBO. It is suggested that the actual travelling expenses of these delegates the first meeting shall he borne by the council, and the method of financing future conrcrenc.es will be discussed at this first meeting. t.he conncil ' proposes to ' call 3 a Conference to coincide with the next annual meeting, and thus enable all affiliated associations to share in the discussion and decision as to how the constitution should be best amended. It is proposed to hold the annual meeting each year in the first week In November, so *s to fit in with Carnival Week in Christchurch, wli*n no doubt many of the delegates will b* glad to ■visit these parts. Commending this matter to your cons*deration, end trusting you will he able to let me have n rentv not late,- than August 31, as It. will be necessary to make early arrangements for hotel accommodation hero during Carnival—-T -am. etc. J. F. PEAKE, Hon. Sec.
