RENEE KELLY WILL OPEN SEASON IN CH’CH SHORTLY.

Commencing next Saturday r.ight at the Theatre Royal, J. C. Williamson (N.Z.), Ltd., will present for the first time in Christchurch Renee Kelly, the famous English actress, supported by an ai 1-star English comedy company, in a repertoire of big comedy successes, “ Polly with a Past,” “ The Last of Mrs Cheyney, “ Brown Sugar ” and " Daddy Long Legs.” Miss Renee Kelly has achieved a personal and an artistic success in the popular comedy, “ Polly with a Past,” which will open the season here. She and those associated with her provide a pleasant entertainment, with humour, clever acting, some love interest and dramatic moments. Briefly, " Polly with a Past ” may be described as a drama of deception. Opening in an atmosphere of utterly conventional mediocrity, it utterly deceives the, audience by suddenly becoming as glittering as topaz and as refreshing as champagne. Renee Kelly will also be seen here in Frederick Lonsdale’s play, “ The Last of Mrs Cheyney, which made London catch itt breath once or twice and set the tongues awagging. Mr Lonsdale writes with a virile pen. His characters never speak without saying something. In Mrs Cheyney he has drawn a character that keeps one guessing. is she rich? Is she good? Even at the end of the big scene in the second act, although one of these questions is apparently answered, the xnystery still remains. Miss Kelly has an ideal role as the ex-chorus girl who marries the son of a peer in “ Brown Sugar.” Laugh follows laugh as the delightful story of Stella Dee-ring and lier love for Lord

Sloano is unfolded. The attempts of her countess mother-in-law to make her a fit and proper person to face, society meet with tremendous opposition from the high-spirited girl. Miss Keliv will conclude her season here with “Daddy Long Legs." The box plans will open at The Bristol next Thursday.
