WAIMAIRI COUNCIL DEALS WITH COUNTY REPORTS AND FINANCES.

The Walmairi County Council met last night: present—Messrs J. Cleland (chairman), T. Newnham, W. J. Walter, G. Shipley. 11. Kitson, W. P. Spencer. C. E. Cross, H. Paterson. G. T. Mulcock. The Works Committee recommended that about ten chains of tar sealing: be done on the Marshland Road. The offer of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. of a forty-gallon cask of bitumen for a trial was accepted. The trial is to be carried out in the presence of the committee. The British Pavements Company wrote regarding the bitumen on the Riccarton Road corrugating along the tram line, stating this was due to water getting under the sleepers, and would probably have to be relaid. The Post and Telegraph Department wrote stating that it was decided to remove the poles (painted white) in Belfast to ten feet from the property line, also those poles from the end of the big drain to the church The remaining poles could stay as at present for the time being. It was decided to support the proposal of the South Island Motor Union to have a South Island motor representative op the Highways Board. Councillor W. I*. With reference to drainage matters in Belfast, the chairman, Councillor Kitson, and the country .clerk, were deputed to interview the Minister of Internal Affairs at Wellington.
