MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. ! (Before Mr IL P. Lawry, SJM.) *1 REMANDED. George Tretlieway (Mr Thomas), charged with the theft of motor accessories valued at £25, the property of John Gordon and Co., Ltd., Kartigi, was remanded till June 21. The Chief-Detective said that there were inquiries to be made about accufed. Most of the stolen property had been recovered. Bail was fixed at £SO, accused to re* port daily to the police. UNLICENSED WIRELESS. Claude Guthwin Perrott, who had erected a wireless set without having a license, was fined £2 and costs, 10s, DRUNKENNESS. Michael Delaney admitted a charge of drunkenness and was fined 20s. AN UNREGISTERED RIFLE. Harold Biggs admitted having a pearifle without being the holder of a permit. Arthur Pemberton Gabbatis admitted having given possession of the rifle to Biggs, and also admitted having changed his address without notifying the police. Biggs was fined £1 and costs, and Gabbatis was fined £1 oil the first charge and 5s on the second. AFTER HOUR TRADING. For selling fresh meat after five o’clock, Arthur E. Wright was fined £5 and costs 10s. NO BUILDING PERMITS. For having erected houses without first obtaining a permit, Raymond Arnold Eder was fined £2 and costs. David Everard Fulton, who had erected a garage without a permit, was fined 10s and costs. SUPPLYING LIQUOR. Tim M’Ellestrum, porter at the Wellington Hotel (Mr Thomas), appeared on a charge that, on May 23, he did supply liquor to William Gilbert and David Kaili after hours. Sergeant Maonamara gave evidence that, on May 21, he visited the hotel with Gilbert and Kaili (previously convicted for being oil licensed premises after hours). After looking for th© man who let Gilbert and Kaili in on the previous night, witness was approached by M’Ellestrum, who said, “If you are looking for the man who let these two in. I am he.’* Mr Thomas submitted that there was no grounds for a conviction. Accused had been very frank and open. Th© transaction, he contended, had been completed before M Ellestrum handled the bottles, which Gilbert and Kaili had called for. The question, said the magistrate, was as to how far the action of M’Ellestrum had aided the action of Gilbert and Kaili. (Proceeding.)
