LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR TWELVE MONTHS.
MAN WAS INTOXICATED IN CHARGE OF CAR. (Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, June 15. Alexander Campbell, aged 55, builder, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to having been intoxicated while in charge _of a motor-car yesterday afternoon in Customhouse Quay. The police stated that accused had been similarly charged on February 7 last year at Petone, but was found not guilty, though he was convicted and fined for negligent driving. Accused was fined £2O and his license was suspended for twelve months. Air Leicester, for accused, said that Campbell had been driving a car for twenty years. He was steering quite a straight course and it was only when he attempted to back that it was seen that arn'-thing was wrong. He was willing to take out a prohibition order. Mr Riddell, S.M., to defendant: “You must know as well as I do the danger of beisg intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car. We have quite enoueh accidents when drivers are sober without increasing the risk b3' having them drunk.”
