MEETING OF RICCARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL HELD.
The first meeting of the newly-elected Riccarton Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor (Mr H. Manhire) presided, and all councillors were present—Councillors R. Hepburn, T. M. Ford. J. F. Peters. R. 11. Rankin. IT. H. Telford, IJ. Gudsell, L. W. Orniandy » and R. G. Malcolmson. The following standing committees were elected: Finance. —Councillors J. X’. Peters (chairman), R. G. Malcolmson, L. TV. Ormandy and R. 11. Rankin. By-laws, Town-planning and Subdivisions—Councillors It. Hepburn (chairman), T. M. Ford, R. G. Malcolmson and L. W. Ormandy. Works.—Councillors TI. Gudsell (chairman). T. M. Ford. .T. F Peters, R. 11. Rankin and H. H. Telford Town Hall—Councillors FT. H. Telford (chairman), T. M. Fordj H. Gudsell and R. H. Rankin. , Electricity—Councillors T. M. Ford (chairman), It. G. Malcolmson, L. >V. Ormandy and J. F. Peters. . Reserves —The Mayor (chairman), Councillors J. I*’. Peters, T. M. Ford, L. W. Ormandy and H. 11. Teltord. Water Supply—Councillors R. H. Rankin (chairman), T. M. Ford, R. Hepburn and J. F. Peters. House and Subsoil Drainage —Councillors R. G. Malcolmson (chairman), Gudsell, R. Hepburn, L. W. Ormandy and H. H. Telford. Advances—Councillors L. W. Ormanfly (chairman). J. F. Peters, H. Gudsell, 11. Hepburn and H. H. Telford. The town clerk was requested to communicate with the Christchurch Drainage Board relative to the state In which the footpath on the north side of lllccarton Road had been left.. An application for permission to dio' e two new houses into the borough from New Brighton was declined. It was decided that the whole council should assemble at the Town Hall at 2 pm. on Saturday, May 21, for a tour of inspection of the streets. A letter from Mr John Reynolds, one of the sinking fund commissioners, complained of tJie failure of the council to invite the commissioners to the Mayoral installation function.—As the invitation's were the personal affair o. tne Mayor (then Mayor-elect), he took to explain to Mr Reynolds that it was an oversight, and no slight had been intended. , The council accepted the Invitation of the Rev Brian Kilroy and the officebearers to attend service at St Mbians Presbyterian Church, on Sunday evening next. __
