THIRD ROUND. The third round of the Canterbury Hockey Association’s competitions was played this afternoon. SELWYN V. ST. AZtBANS. Attacks were freely exchanged in the early stages of the game. St. Albans lost r royal chance of scoring by Williamson fielding poorly. Selwyn readied St. Albans circle, N. Bell shooting wide. Selwyn dominated the attack and had three unsuccessful corners. Brilliant play by F. Squire gave J. Squire an opening but Luxton saved brilliantly. Quartermain and Lucas broke away for St. Albans but were stopped by Ilore. Selwyn made repeated attacks, but splendid defence by Soper and Luxton kept the goal clear. There was no score at half-time. Selwyn opened the attack in the second spell and Luxton was caught out of position, but Soper got back and cleared. Richmond and T. Squire put in a combined effort for Selwyn, but Werren cleared. Selwyn came back, but off-side spoilt the chance. Quartermain made a fine solo effort and reached Selwyn’s circle, but B. Ilore inSelwyn" kept up the pressure, and .T. Squire put in a hot shot, which just went outside. Frequent penalties for offside were given against Selwyn. Quartermain was again prominent in a solo run, which carried play well into Selwyn’s circle, but after a scramble, Grose cleared. Final score: — ST ALBANS i 0 SELWYN 0 TRINITY v. TECHNICAL B. Fast even play marked the opening stages of the game at Hagley Park this afternoon. Technical scored early from Bastion. After fierce attacks Trinity notched a goal, Collins registering. Technical’s goalie then made an excellent save from one of Trinity forwards. Technical secured the ball and missed an easy shot into Trinity’s undefended goal. Trinity was favoured by hefty backs, who took a lot of breaking through. Both teams were penalised for sticks and offside offences were very frequent. One slight mishap occurred, to Trinity’s half-back, necessitating a break of a few minutes. Half-time score:—Trinity 2, Technical B 1.

Bastion made a fine run down the field, and registered an easy goal, thus equalising tho score. F. Perham saved one goal for Trinity with his jaw, which enlarged somewhat after the incident. Technical then made the game fast, and found Trinity’s circle frequently, and after much play Technical again netted, Bastion being once more victorious. TECHNICAL 3 TRINITY' 2 Referee—YV. 11. Down. TECHNICAL A V. VARSITY. Ford broke away on the left for Varsity and centred, Holland's shot going behind. A long hit by C. Rogers put Technical on the attack, but Newton relieved. Grade, Hahn and Coffey gained a lot of ground on a Technical forward rush. Play went to the other end, ■where Varsity lost a good opportunity through failing to follow into the circle. Varsity continued to attack, but C. Rogers got Technical out of a difficult situation and sent Hahn away on the left. For.l put in a fast run for Varsity, a corner resulting- It was cleared. In another solo effort Ford just missed scoring when Bellamy had rushed out of bis goal. The Technical forwards took play to the Varsity circle, but Hahn hit too hard when outside the circle. Half-time was called without any score. Technical A 0, Varsity 0. On resuming Varsity attacked, but hard hitting by Hitchens and Rogers kept them out. From a corner Varsity had a good opportunity, but “ sticks ” by a Varsity forward lost the opportunity'. Holland and Williamson had possession in the Technical circle, but a melee ended in a corner.
