FIRE BRIGADE HAD TWO CALLS LAST EVENING

The fire brigade are having a good run at the present time. Two calls were answered last evening. The first was at 6.56 p.m. to the Shades Hotel, Hereford Street, where there was a small fire in the second storey of the front portion of the building. The fire was with very little damage to the roof. The conflagration was caused through

someone throwing a cigarette butt out of a window. It alighted 011 the dry snow board and flames later burst out under the iron roof. The building and contents are insured in the British Traders’ Companj*. The brigade was called out again at 7.34 p.m. to extinguish a fire amongst a large number of packing cases at the rear of a shed used in conjunction with the Foresters’ Hall, Oxforff Terrace. The shed was slightly damaged, and a number of packing cases were destroyed. The hall building and contents arc insured in the State office.
