CRICKET TRAGEDY BECAME COMEDY.
MAILEY TELLS HOW VICTORIA CROWDED FOUR FIGURES ON SCORE-BOARD. Ov Telegraph.—Prefce Arsn.—copyrigHtAus. and JC.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 31, 9.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE. December 31. Commenting on Victoria's historic defeat of New South Wales, Arthur Mailey says that it was marked by many humorous incidents when the visitors saw r the scoring official trying to crowd the four-figure score into the space meant for three figures, the tragedy became a comedy and though they tried hard their sense of humour was a greater as: % than their cricket ability. Andrews, on leaving the field, declared: “If we can get two or three thousand in the second knock, we will make a game of it.” The bowlers admitted the argument, but pointed out that they had to get the Victorians out again and they themselves did want to get home for Easter. Warwick Armstrong, when informed that Jackson was only seventeen, replied: “Well, it is just as well he's young. He will be twenty-seven before you se* Victoria out.”
