MANAWATU RACES.

FINAL DAY. (Special to the “Star.") PALMERSTON X.. December 30. The weather was brilliant for the concluding: day of the Manawstu RacingClub's meeting to-day and the attendance was very fair. The racing was high-class, head and noae victories testifying - to the good work of Mr J.E. Henrys, the club's handicapper. Lady Passenger and Bloodßed carried the. money in the Tiritea Hurdles. Little River, well clear, Jed Lady Passenger, Lady Gay. Blood Red and Matu for a mile and a quarter. Then Matu and Sottana moved up. and racing: to the last fence Little River just led Lady Passenger, Matu and Sottana. Sottana wore down 'the leaders and won by half a length from Lady Passenger, who Jed Matu by a head. Blood Red was fourth, and Olenidle next. Sot- ; tana had too much speed at the end, although he jumped badly. Lady Passenger and Matu both ran good races. Blood Red should, do better at Feilding. Pangolin and Acred carried the bulk of the money in the Whltemore Handicap, with Some Lad at long - odds. Petal. Archon, Pangolin and Acred led Elysianor and Some Lad to the turn, where Capitulation became prominent. Some Lad finished on well and beat Acred by a length, with Capitulation a head away third. Pangolin was fourth, with Arehon and Elicit next- Some Lad. patiently ridden, stayed on well. Acred, Capitulation and Archon all ran good race*. Blysrianor might have won but for running off the course. Helen and Paleta were the prime picks for Hie Juvenile Handicap. Helen was troublesome at the barrier, and eventually was left. Paleta, Reckless and Tom Bracken began best and led Ducks* Eggs. Arro4 Lad and Crown Area. At the turn Paleta and Tom .Bracken drew' a.wav, Paleta winning by a head from TOm Bracken, with Crown Area two lengths away third. Reckless w*s fourth, and Arrow Lad, Wild Pigeon and Helen next. The winner scored decisively, if only by a head. Tom Bracken ran an improved race. Reremoana was backed down to a very short price in the Liverpool Handicap. Buoyant and Joy Bird led round, to the top turn from Reremoana, Civility, Peneus, Bennanee and Inferno. Inferno, Joy Bird and Peneus just led Civility and Reremoana at the turn. Civility finished on well and beat Inferno by a head, with Peneus half a length away third. Reremoana was fourth, and Bennanee and Joy .Bird next. Civility won in great style, staying on well. Inferno was a perfect nuisance at the barrier, delaying the start and breaking- the barrier innumerable times. Mr W. Price, the starter, was by far too lenient to this horse, who kicked dangerously. 'Precious and Bank Note were the best backed in the West bury Handicap, a fair betting race. Volplane. Miss Pat and Royal Time were slow away. Bank Note led out from White Ringlet, Powbirj. Precious and Royal Game. White Ringlet, was beaten at the turn, but .Powhiri hung on to Bank Xote, the pair fighting out a desperate finish. Bank Xote won by a. head, with Precious three-quarters of a length away third. Royal Game and White Ringlet were next. Bank Note's performance was exTiega and Allmarimba were practically evenly backed in the Clandeboye Handicap, which was a good betting race. AJ]marimba and. Bonhomme led down the back from Kilmiss and Sarttonio, with Polar, Tiega. and Ngata next. Santonio moved up at the turn and Bonhornme drew away to be joined halfway down the running by Tiega, who undei - pressure beat Bonhomme by a nose. Kilmtss was third and Santonio Polar and Allmarimba next. Tiega went a great race. Bonhomme, Allmarimba and Polar should do well at the New Year rneel ings. Te Koroke was a little better backed than Black Mint in the Christmas Handicap. Zarisee led past the six furlong harrier from Black Mint, Great Day, Bvonatell and Hypnotic. Barryanda and Wilderness made a fast forward move across the top, Black Mint looking the winner at the turn, but Great Day and Wilderness ran past. him. Te Koroke then came fast and. won by a head from Great Day. who heftt 'Wilderness bv three-quarters of a length. Black Mint and Hypnotic were next. It was a great race, and Te Koroke finished well after having none of the luck of the race. Great Day and Wilderness should do something during the New 'Year holidays. For the Kawau Handicap Lady Ben■tinck was a good favourite in a' heavy betting race. Lady Bentinek. Tukia, Anthonie and Plain Sailing began best, with Glen Lnuis slow away. Plain Salling led across the top from Lady Bcntinck. Gold Box, Tukia. and First Acre, with Mireusonta well back nearly last. Plain Sailing was beaten when they turned tor home, and Mireusonta came fast just failing to get up to Lady Bentmck. who won half a length. First Acre was a similar distance awav third, with Gold Box, Plain Sailing and Tukia next. Lady Bentinek won well and Mireusonta put up a great perfoi in-
