ADDINGTON TROTS.

CANTERBURY PARK MEETING

TO-MORROW’S PROGRAMME. The summer meeting of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club will be commenced at Addington to-morrow and concluded on Monday. The club is the only one that races here during the holiday season, and the fixture is thus specially popular with stay-at-home sportsmen. Many local horses are engaged at meetings in other parts of the Dominion, but with so many in training here there are always plenty to race at the local club’s gathering For to-morrow’s racing there is a capital acceptance in all the events, and the racing should be/of a high order. Bon Wood, by reason of his success at Ashburton early in the week, is certain to receive solid support for the mile and a half harness race for trotters. Rose Audo will be racing over her favourite distance, and she may trouble the Ashburton winner. Nourmahal is racing into form, and if The Toff’ keeps steady he will be troublesome, as he is good over a mile and a half. In the Templeton Handicap Colene Pointer, who won at Ashburton, and Holly Bell, who finished second, are both engaged. They will now meet on even terms over a half-mile shorter course, and indications point to Colene Pointer again being successful. Great Earl won decisively in Wellington, and is now on the limit of the handicap. He is a somewhat slow beginner, otherwise he would possess a good chance. The race should prove a really keen one. and much will depend on a good beginning. There is quite a good-class field in the chief two-mile harness event. Ouimet and Loganwood are on the end of the handicap, and of the pair the former possesses the better credentials at present, as he proved himself in good form by winning at New Brighton recently; but Ouimet is a moody customer, and he may not race at his best, while Loganwood is not yet at his best for a two-mile race. Roicole is unreliable, and has not raced at all well in his latest efforts. There is a strong trio on the 36yds mark. Black Admiral has reliability to recommend him. and he is a sound two-miler, whilst Becky Logan is sounder than formerly, despite her poor showing at New Brighton over the distance. Peter Bingen looks to be the pick of the handicap, and probably he will start favourite. He has been gradually improving, and he will race well. Logan Chief is not yet ready for a two-mile journey, and he should be beaten by his stable companion, to whom he is conceding 12yds. Onyx raced particularly well at Wellington, and, as this is probably her last race, she may prove that she is not yet a back number. Waitaki Girl is not racing at her best, and Sheik although looking wonderfully well, raced very badly in his last effort. Peter Bingen and Black Admiral should be the hardest to beat. There is quite a good field for the mile and a half saddle race. If Zolock Palm would begin well, he would win easily, as he has speed and stamina, but probably both Wairua and Alvira will beat the Wellington-owned pacer. The winner should come from Alvira or Wairua, with Locanda Child a possibility. The two-mile harness race, for trotters. is usually a good contest, and there is material in the Stewards’ Handicap for a fine race. Mount Royal trotted a fine race after a bad beginning at New Brighton, and has a fine chance of success. Duke Bingen cannot stay, whilst Nelson Bell, although he is improving under N. L. Price's charge, is not yet at his best. Randolph, is uncertain, and Wild Hebe is a back number. Frisco Beau is improving. and Lady Fan is a recent winner. Young Carbine is none too sound, but Peter M’Kinney has shown that he is coming back to his best form. Bingenette is a solid plugger. as is Bundaberg. Mount Royal. Frisco Beau and Peter M’Kinney appear to have the best chances. There is a fine lot of sprinters in the mile and a quarter event. Bessie Logan, now that she has shown some of her old form by winning at New Brighton, will be hard to beat off the end of the handicap. Ivy Audubon and her stable companion, Brentloc, on 12yds, will probably be the favourite choice with backers. Macaranda gave evidence at Ashburton that he is in form'; and he is a brilliant sprinter. Taurekareka should beat the other back markers. Edith Locanda and Final M’Kinney should "race well in the mile saddle event, but Pearl Coronado has been backed more than once of late, which is an indication that she is in form. Of those on the limit in the mile harness event, the Australian DeanxVood should be best, as he has a fine turn of speed. Rufine should be hard to beat from 12yds, and will probably start favourite, in view of her good showing at Ashburton. Macanda is certain to be solidly backed, and may race up to his admirers’ expectations. The first race will be started at 11.30 a.m., an excellent holiday arrangement. permitting an early wind up. • The following is the programme:
