I A sixteen-wheeled electric locomo- i five, used at the inauguration of the i new Paris-Vierzon service, hauled a 400 j ton train 145 miles at an average speed i of eighty-one miles an hour. The power was supplied from a hydro-electric source. The service forms part of a compre hensive plan to render the French rail# ways independent of foreign coal.
