BISHOP FEARS MIGRANTS MAY LOSE FAITH.
“ AVID SECULARISM ” BELIEVED TO HOLD DOMINIONS IN GRIP. . By Telegrrapb.—Press Assn-—Copyright. Abs. and NJS. Cable Association. (Received November 29, 2 pm ) LONDON, November 2S. 'Tf avid, arrogant secularism is too often the temper of colonial society, if passion for money making and appetite for frivolous self indulgence are even more blatant in the new English communities than in the old, could the English dioceses which are shaping im migrants disown a measure of responsibility for that melancholy portentous fact?” asked the Bishop of Durham, preaching at Durham Cathedral. He added that the coal stoppage doubtless would necessitate an organised effort for the migration overseas of multitudes of those permanently Linemployed and said: Tt is a grave reflection, if crude, naked secularisation, to which clergymen are accustomed as deplorable and unavoidable in their own parishes, should be the foundation of popular life in the dominions. The migrants may be mentally and physically excellent, but their moral and spiritual equipment must be the occasion for profound anxiety.”
