ATTEMPTED SUICIDE BECAUSE THE GIRL WOULD NOT SEE HIM.
Per Press Association. GISBORNE. November 29. “The accused is a resident of Auckland and had fallen violently in love with a girl up there. She did not return his affection, but came to Gis borne, and he followed and went to see her. She was busy at the time and refused to see him, whereupon he slashed his wrist with a razor.” Thus Sergeant Fitzpatrick outlined the case against a youth, nineteen years of age, charged at the Police Court this morning with attempted suicide. Accused had since written from the hospital threatening suicide, and the medical superintendent refused to take any further responsibility. Accused said the letter was merely bluff. He saw his mistake now and would make no further attempt. The Magistrate said he could not ac cept his word, and in view of what had happened would admit him to a reformative institute for six months. The suppression of his name was ordered.
