MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Samuel Robert Prisk, described by Senior-Sergeant Martin as "a bit of a pest,” was charged with being found drunk in Hiys Road, and also with procuring liquor white prohibited. Prisk, on his own application, was sent to the “ Island ” for two years. Roderick M’Kay, Robert Campbell, and a first offender, were all convicted and discharged for drunkenness. The men had been in the police station cells since their arrests on Saturday. William Kelly, for drunkenness in Ferry Road, did not appear and was ordered to forfeit the amount of his bail, 20s. (Before Mr F. H. Hobbs. J.P., and Mr I J . L. Davies, J.P.) TRAFFIC CASES. For pillion riding, William G. Carrington was fined 10s, and for driving without a license he was fined 20s. For pillion riding, Leo O’Malley. Albert Cyril Smith and Hugh Sim were each fined 10s. For having a vehicle bearing an expired license disc, William Ching was convicted and discharged. For having unlicensed vehicles. Albert Eden was fined 10s, Ernest Dickey 40s, William Millrter 10s, Hugh Lowther 10s, and Harry Pannell 10s. Don B. Cullen was convicted and discharged. For permitting a trailer to be used, Ira Lawry was fined 10s. For cycling on the footpath, Bruce Forsyth was fined 10s. For cycling without a light, Cyril T. Paul was fined ss. MAINTENANCE CASES. An affiliation order was made against Allan Walker Forbes (Mr Tracy), who was ordered to pay maintenance at the rate of 12s 6d a week, expenses £lO 10s and £l4 past maintenance. Ellen Jessie Gray proceeded against her husband, Henry Frederick Gray, for maintenance, separation and guardianship orders, on the grounds of failure to maintain. The orders were made, maintenance to be paid at the rate of £2 a week. William Edward O’Connell was ordered to pay £2 10s a week maintenance to his wife. Annie Helena Wall (Mr Stacey), proceeded against her husband, Alfred George Wall (Mr Cracroft Wilson), for separation, maintenance and guardianship orders, on the grounds of habitual inebriacy. Orders were made accordingly, defendant being ordered to pay maintenance at the rate of £2 a week, and past maintenance £3. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) NONSUITED. Gordon Aston, shipping company employee (Mr Atack), claimed from Percy Helmore, tourist agent, of Christchurch (Mr Cuningham), the sum of £7O 16s 6d as refund alleged to be due to him on a steamer ticket. After evidence for the plaintiff had been heard, Mr Cuningham submitted that no claim could be made against defendant personally, and that plaintiff personally had no claim, as the plaintiff shoulci have been the Trans-Pacific Auto Corporation. The Magistrate nonsuited plaintiff, with costs to defendant.

LYTTELTON.

(Before Mr F. E. Sutton, J.P., and Mr F. Knights, J.P.) Charles Frederick Aylmer and James Reuben Watts, members of the crew of the ©A. Tainui, were charged with using obscene language between Christchurch and Lyttelton. Both the accused denied the charge. Constable Irwin stated that he was a passenger by the train on Saturday afternoon, when the two accused used the language complained of. They occupied a second-class smoker. A fine of 40s, in default fourteen days’ imprisonment, was imposed on each of the accused.
