MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A statutory first offender, who was found drunk on the railway platform, was fined 20s. in default fortyeight hours’ imprisonment. ARREST RESENTED. Adolphus M. Thompson, aged fiftv, was charged with failing to provide adequate maintenance. Mr Haslam. who appeared for complainant in the case. said that he would have to apply for a remand unless defendant consented to separation and maintenance orders. The Magistrate (to defendant): Do you consent to a remand? "I don't want to stay in." came the reply. “They had no right to arrest me—l haven’t tried to get away. I was quite prepared to meet my wife.” Mr Ilaslam explained that defendant could not be summonsed as his address was unknown, so arrest was the only alternative. Defendant was remanded to appear on Monday. CHILDREN’S COURT. (Before Mr 11. A. Young, S.M., and Mrs A. E. Herbert). ENTERED HOUSE. A boy aged ten pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing from a house goods valued at £1 and a letter containing a cheque for £5. C'hief-Detective Gibson said that the boy had climbed through a window into the house and there stolen the goods. He had been very untruthful when questioned about the matter. A school master said he knew the boy and was prepared to take charge of him. The case was adjourned for twelve months. NO LICENSE. A boy aged fifteen was fined 10s for riding a motor-cycle when not having a license to do so.
