CONFERENCE TO BE HELD.
END OF FREEZING WORKS HITCH LIKELY. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 27. The secretary of the New Zealand Freezing Works and Related Trades Industrial Association informed a reporter to-day that preliminary negotiations had been concluded for holding a conference of all the parties concerned on Wednesday for the purpose of arriving at an amicable settlement of the freezing works dispute. This follows a letter from Mr J. Milne, acting on behalf of the freezing companies of New Zealand, to Mr H. C. Revel!, Kaiapoi. who is secretary of t.he New Zealand Freezing Works and Related Trade Industrial Association of Workers.
VOLUNTEER STAFFS AT GISBORNE JOIN UNION. Per Press Association. GISBORNE, November 27. An important development at both the local freezing works is that the whole of the volunteer staffs have joined the existing Freezing Workers Union.' This completely alters the whole position, as the works are now entirely manned with union workers. Operations are proceeding most satisfactorily, and the stock coming forward is being dealt with. A meeting of farmers at Tolaga Bay decided to make full arrangements to staff tho works at Tokomaru Bay, which open on December 6. WORK PROCEEDING AT MASTERTON. (Special to the “Star.”) MASTERTON, November 27. Operations are proceeding smoothly at the local meat works, the volunteer labour proving quite proficient and the company being well pleased with the progress. It is anticipated in some union quarters that the dispute will soon be settled. In any case the services of the union men can be done without, as the volunteers are filling the bill adequately.
