SHE BORROWED BOTH CAR AND THE DRIVER.

(Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, November 27. An extraordinary case of unlawful conversion of a motor-car was heard to-day. Catherine Donovan, a married woman, aged forty, pleaded guilty, and the facts as stated by the police were that the accused accosted a passer-by and asked him to drive her in a car standing by. which she said belonged to her. The man did so, taking her at her request to a house in Taranaki Street, into which she went, taking with her some meat that was in the car. The owner of the car appeared on the scene while the man was fruitlessly awaiting the woman’s return. Accused was later identified on the street. She had been several times previously convicted. The female probation officer said that drink was the cause of the woman’s lapse. She was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for conversion of the car, and convicted and discharged on the charge of dealing the meat, which was valued at £1 16s lid. Both the car and the meat belonged to Mr Christopher Pinnock.
