CHRISTCHURCH MAN SECURES HONOUR. A. L. HASLAM AND W. KALAUGHER CHOSEN. Ter Press Association. WELLINGTON, November 26. The New Zealand Rhodes Scholars have been selected. They are:— Mr A. L. Haslam. Christchurch. Mr W. Kalaugher, Wellington. One of the most brilliant students produced at Canterbury College, Mr A. ma nn ts-iaw sYOlq rmmgt L. Haslam, LL.M., | who is a solicitor |by profession, was 1 educated at the ] Wai taki Boys’ >lligh School, and ' commenced his university career in : 1922. He took his i LL.B. degree after ! three years of , study, and capped a brilliant achievement by taking his LL.M. with first-clas honours the following year. Ile a was the first New Zealand student to take these two examinations in successive years. He is one of the best debaters at the university, and was this year a member of the Canterbury team which won the university debate at Dunedin; and he has also represented the College against visiting university teams, including the Oxford debaters, who visited Christchurch. On the sporting field, too, he is an ardent enthusiast, having represented Canterbury College in the long-distance events in the annual inter-university tournaments for the last two years.
