DRUMMERS SET NEW FASHION.
LEOPARD SKIN APRON TO ADORN MILADY. (Special to the “Star.”) LONDON, September 28. There is nothing too odd for a new dress fashion. Dress designers seem to go to the utmost corner of the earth for their designs. One of the* newest decorations for winter dresses is taken direct from the costume of the drummer in a regimental band, who wears a:leopard or tiger skin apron-wise over bis tunic. A model seen at Reville’s yesterday had a similar apron of leopard skin over a plain black pleated skirt. The collar and sleeves of the model were of . crimson georgette, thus emphasising the military note. The drummer fashion was again apparent in a modei \Vhen gold tissue was arranged apronwise, coming up in a point between the shoulder blades behind on cherry red chiffon. A red tassel dangled in front from the applique flowers that marked the low waistline. Those paper streamers that are sold with the balloons .at the entrance to Kensington Gardens are obviously the inspiration of another winter model gown, which has sleeves banded with all the colours of the rainbow, while the rest of the dress is of severest black. Other fashion freaks to be seen later in the year are a collar of lplack lace on a black restaurant dress, that reaches to the hem of the gown, and only encircles half the neck; and an other with slits cut to allow the elbows to be seen through a black satin dress piped with scarlet. A combination of mediaeval splendour and sporting rakishness is promised for evening frocks and tea gowns for smart wear. Sleeves are enormous affairs, taking several yards of stuff; capes and trainr. appear on many models, heavily embroidered in red and gold on tissue and brocade, while the jumper suit silhouette in gorgeous materials is incongruously popular, and the sailor knot and the mannish tie are favourite necklines.
