UNEMPLOYED WAIT ON GIPSY SMITH.
YOU HAVE MY SYMPATHY, SAYS THE EVANGELIST. When Gipsy Smith arrived at Trinity Congregational Church, Worcester Street, to-day for his lunch hour service he found waiting to see him, a small group of unemployed, who had decided to place their position before ; him. The evangelist walked up to the group and greeted each man with a hearty hand-shake. Mr S. Fournier, who seemed to have been appointed spokesman, then explained that they were a few of the unemployed of Christchurch and that it was decided to ask him for his help. The evangelist was told that there was a body in existence known as the Organisation of the Unemployed and that any donations he cared to send to the Trades Hall would be welcomed and would be used to help alleviate the position. After listening to Mr Fournier, the evangelist .said that they had his sini cere sympathy. He then walked into the church, the members of the deputation doffing their hats to him. A moment or two later the men, headed by Mr Fournier, trooped into the church and took part in the serAt tfie conclusion of the service the unemployed again waited on Gipsy Smith, who received them and discussed their position with them for ten minutes.
