ALLEGED THEFTS FROM LIBRARY.
CHARGES MADE AGAINST MAN AND WOMAN. A man whose name was suppressed was charged at the Magistrate’s Court this morning with stealing from the Public Library a book valued at 5s 6d, the property of the Canterbury College Board of Governors. A woman was charged also with stealing two books valued at 12s. Mr M. J. Gresson apeared for the man and Mr Lascelles for the woman. In applying for a remand until tomorrow, counsel asked that the name of the man be suppressed until the facts of the case were made known to the court. “I have never seen a clearer case for suppression than this,” said Mr Gresson.
In both cases the names were suppressed by the magistrate (Mr Young). The man was remanded to appear tomorrow afternoon and the woman till Friday.
