OTAHUHU TROTS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, November 20. The Otahuhu Trotting Club’s spring meeting opened to-day in fine weather. The track was in good order and there was a large attendance. Results:— INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP (in harness), Of 300 sovs; one mile and a half. 3 Red Dennis, scr 1 14—Amberite, 36yds 2 2 Sister Beatrice, 108yds 3 All started. Won by three and a half lengths. Time—3min 45 4-ssec. MANGE RE HANDICAP (in harness), of 300 sovs. One mile and a half. I—Great Peter, scr 1 3 Goldfinch, 24yds 2 33—Moko Chief, scr 3 Scratched—Speed King, Papuan Gold, Bell o’ Brass, Leewood, Final M’Kinney. Won by a length. Time—2min 58 l-ssec. In the Introductory Handicap a good betting race, Roma Bingen carried exactly £1 more than Sister Beatrice, while the ultimate winner. Red Dennis, had £IOO less on him. When they ran along the back for the last time Red Dennis was right out by himself, Amborite, Colonel Thorpe and Lilydale being bunched at the head of the others. Colonel Thorp was running second until turning for home, whore Lilydale and Amberite were handy. However, nothing had a chance with Red Dennis, who went on to win comfortably by three lengths from Amberite, with Sister Beatrice, who made up a lot of ground from the home turn, half a length away third. Lilydale was fourth. Time—3mln 45 4-ssec. In the Mangere Handicap Great Peter was £l5O better backed than Marionette, while Goldfinch and Peter Grattan were next in demand. Mamma fell in the straight. Along the back Great Peter was pilot from Goldfinch. Gladys Cole, Moko Chief, Admiral Hood and Admiral Loch. There was practically no change to the finish. Great Peter winning by a length from Goldfinch, who beat Moko Chief by two and a half lengths. Admiral Hood was fourth. Time—2min 58 1-ssec. In the Onehunga Handicap William the Great carried £2OO more than Auto Machine, while there was good support for Jewel Pointer and Lord Nepean. When they came round the second time Auto Machine was running second to Reliance, with Lord Nepean, William the Great, Jewel Pointez* and Direct Morning racing as named. Reliances led along the back for the last time from Auto Machine, Lord Nepean and William the Great. There was little change entering the straight, but Auto Machine then took charge, and, going on, won by one and a half lengths from .Reliance, who beat Lord Nepean by four lengths. In the Jellicoe Handicap, Parkwood was entrusted with about £740 more than Nelson Fame, while Money Spider also had friends. When they came round the second time, Nelson Fame was showing the way to Parkwood, Jewel, Wallroon, Prince Pointer and Talent. Before the top was reached, Prince Pointer had run up to Nelson Fame, with Parkwood and Jewel. Prince Pointer was the first to turn for home, from Parkwood, Jewel and Nelson Fame. Prince Pointer went on to beat Billy Sea, who finished fast, by half a neck, with Parkwood three-quarters of a length further back third, a neck in front of Jewel. Then came Talent, Money Spider, Wallroon and Nelson For the Stewards’ Handicap Kotuku Ja.ck carried £3OO more than Deadwood, with Grattan Thorpe and Stanmoor next. Tire fancied favourite was interfered with by Golden Stone, who did not leave the mark properly. Passing- the stand the second time Stanmoor was in front from Grattan Thorpe, Bingen King, Kotuku Jack, Uncle Bert, Bingex: Star and Anselm, and crossing the top Stanmoor and Grattan Thorpe were well clear of Bingen King. Uncle Bert and Deanwood. Once in line for the judge Stanmoor drew out to beat Grattan Thorpe. Deanwood followed the deadheaters for third place. In the Campbell Handicap Bundaberg was £250 better favourite than Ngatira, with Peter Dean and Tradesman also well backed. Crossing the top the leader Bundaberg broke, letting Ngatira and The Tartar head him. Ngatira then had a little difficulty in winning. Peter Dean was fourth. LEVIN RACES. For Press Association.
