SUMNER SURF CLUB ARRANGES PROGRAMME.
A meeting of the committee of the Sumner Surf Life-saving Club was held in the pavilion on Wednesday evening, when Mr S. K. Bassett presided over a full attendance. Matters in connection with the opening of tho surfing season were fully considered.
Owing to tho improvements round the club's pavilion not being completed, It was decided to postpone the opening day until Saturday, December 4. Arrangements were made for surfing demonstrations by the club's teams, as well as the usual entertainments and slde-
Mr J. R. Hawker was appointed honorary secretary, and a vote of thanks was accorded the retiring secretaj-y, Mr A. F. Taylor.
In reply to an invitation to attend the New Brighton Surf Glut's opening, it was decided that the secretary should represent the club officially. The treasurer reported on the cost of the stone wall on the sea front, and other Improvements. He stated that the Beautifying Association had donated £lO towards the cost, also that the Returned Soldiers' Association was paying £1 for fl subsidy up to £SO on wages paid to returned soldiers employed on the work.
The Sumner Brass Band was thanked for its offer to assist on the open ing day. A sub-committee was set up to complete all other necessary arrangements.
