After many delays the actual -tf-ork of erecting the long-anticipated traffic bridge over the Selwyn River, on the Main South Road, is about to be commenced, and in another week the huge steam hammer, which has been brought down from the North Island for the purpose of driving the piles, will be put into action. At present workmen are engaged in the construction of the derrick for the pile-driving operations, and it is expected that everything will be in readiness in a few days time. About a couple of dozen fcrro-concrctc piles have been made at the site and are ready for use.
