GRIM IRONY UNDERUES AUTHOR’S SUICIDE.
REFUSED TO BELIEVE LATEST BOOK SUCCESS, AND SHOT HIMSELF. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, November 17. Mr Alle Upward, the well-known novelist, was found shot through the heart at his rooms in Wimborne, Dorset. Grim irony underlies the tragedy of a man of brilliant gifts who, after years of failure, published the sensation novel “The Domino Club,” dealing with pyscho-analysis. It was an immediate success and one of the best sellers in America. Unfortunately, Upward -decided that his efforts to get back were useless, and he refused to believe evidence to the contrary and died believing he was a literary failure.
