TRIBUTE TO MEMORY OF MR WALTER HILL.

VERY LARGE ATTENDANCE AT FUNERAL TO-DAY. The great esteem in which the late Mr Walter Hill was held by all sections of the community and by the business firms throughout the Dominion with which he was associated as a wool buyer was shown by the very large number who attended the funeral this morning and by the wealth of floral tributes received. The cortege, which moved off from his late residence, “Allerton,” Avonside, at 10.30, was fully a mile in length, and the large gathering at the graveside in the Bromley Cemetery during the burial service was an eloquent testimony to one of the city’s most respected citizens. The Rev Harry Johnson, of Auckland, secretary and organiser of the Congregational Union Of New Zealand, and the Rev David Hird, of Opotiki,’ both of whom are former ministers of Trinity Congregational Church, Christchurch. which the late Mr Hill attended. conducted the services in the house and at the graveside. The pall-bearers weye Dr J. P. Whetter, Messrs J. T. Ilarkness, A. B. Christensen (Patea), W. R. Lascelles, George Hargreaves and C. F. Champion.

The chief mourners were Messrs Herbert and Renai Hill (sons), James Hill (nephew), Harry Hargreaves (nephew), and W. Austin (son-in-law).
