OVERHAULING THE WARDROBE.
It is necessary for every wardrobe to be overhauled periodically. As a rule this is done in most households in the spring, just before spring cleaning, but it is p. good plan to do it again before the winter. The beginning of the autumn, when one is discarding summer clothes, is quite a good time to undertake this rather lengthy task. Everything should be given a thorough inspection. Faded or soiled dresses or coats can be dyed if they are to be worn immediately; if they are not required until the next summer it is we.ll to have them washed or cleaned, but to leave the dyeing until jufct be.fore they are wanted. If they are dyed now it may be found next summer that the colour chosen is not quite suitable. It, is not wise to keep through the winter clothes which are too shabby to wear again In fact, it is never economical to hoard old clothes, as often they attract moths, which, unfortunately, find their way into new things too. Shabby, faded hats, garments too worn to be utilised for other purposes, should be cleaned, made tidy, and given away, in order to leave room for the clothes it is necessary to keep. Summer frock:-, should be washed, but not ironed, before putting away. Yvhten there are several children in a household it is useful to overhaul their clothes before the school term begins, as it is then possible to sec what new clothes will be required. Dresses can often be turned, cleaned, or dyed and altered so that they will fit a younger member of the family. Overhauling also enables one to plan one’s clothes for the coming season in good time, and to find out what colour schemes to choose. Last year's things, when taken out of their hiding-places, often look quite fresh, and many a woman finds, to her delight, that a new winter coat may be unnecessary if she has a new fur collar and cuffs, or makes some little renovation or alteration Certainly all people who have to be economical should thoroughly consider J the possibilities of their existing clothes j before buying new ones.
