CREDITORS IN ESTATE OF F. S. RUTHERFORD FAIL TO ATTEND.

DEFIENCY OF £295 ON BANKRUPTCY. There was an estimated deficiency of £295 9s 5d in the estate of Francis Scott Rutherford, farmer, 20, Leighton Street, Christchurch, whose creditors were summoned to the office of the Official Assignee to-day. As there was no quorum, the meeting lapsed. The sum of £899 16s 5d was owing to unsecured creditors. The liability to a secured creditor was £250. The value of the security was estimated at £450, leaving a surplus of £2OO. Under the heading of assets, there were: Book debts, £314 7s; real estate (section at New Brighton), £9O; surplus from contra, £2OO, leaving a deficiency of £296 9s 6d. The principal unsecured creditors were:—Land Tax Department, £25 4s; T. G. Hilller, Christchurch, £39 8s 8d; D.1.C., Christchurch, £l9 18s; G. Exton, butcher, Riccarton, £6 7a 6d; Hurdley’s, Ltd., art specialists. Christchurch, £7 12s; A. F. Roberts, merchant, Timaru, £53 17s; Kincaid’s, Ltd., Christchurch, £l2; Strange and Co., Ltd., Christchurch, £5; W. Gostello, tailor, Christchurch, £6; Gibbs Brothers, Halswell, farmers, £26 5s 9d; R. Fairbalrn, butcher, Riccarton, £10; N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op., Christchurch, £ls 14s lid; N.Z. Farmers’ Co-op. shares department, £6O; M'Veagh and Fleming, solicitors, Auckland, £2l- 16s 4d; N.Z. Insurance Co., Ltd., Auckland, £557 18s. The Bank of New Zealand was the secured creditor. The amount owing was £250, and the security was 1000 ten shilling shares in the A.P.A. Insurance Company, fully paid up. Owing to the formation of the Gower-Burns-Hoben Club for opera, Madame Gower-Burns postponed her students* concert. It is now three years since Madame Gower-Burns presented some of her advanced students at a most successful concert. Many of the students this time will make their first appearance in the Choral Hall on Saturday, November 27. The box plan opens at the Bristol on Saturday, November 20. The stocktaking of the library at the British Museum involves forty-six miles of book-shelves, each book having to be checked, taken out, dusted, and finally examined to see that it has suffered no loss since the last stocktaking.
