NATIVES OBJECT STRONGLY TO BILLS

CONFERENCE REJECTS SOUTH AFRICAN GOVT. MEASURE. i By Telegraph.—rress Assn.—Copyright. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Association I (Received November 4, 1.30 p.m.) CAPETOWN, November 3. A Native Conference, representing all the provinces, convened by the Government, is sitting at Pretoria to consider the Premier’s native bills, which were explained by Mr Tielmann Roos, Acting-Premier. The strongest opposition was expressed to the Franchise Bills. Speakers stated that the Government evidently desired not so much to give the natives representation as to take away the Cape Native Franchise. They also strongly objected to the Government's demand that all the Bills be passed as a whole. Ultimately, the conference passed a resolution by a large majority, condemning the abolition of the Cape Native Franchise and rejecting in toto the Native Representation Bill.
