A deputation from the Motion Pic tures Producers’ Association waited on the Chief Secretary (Mr Lazzarini) and pointed out the grip that American films had on the Australian market. They asked that it should be made compulsory for lessees or licensees to show up to 25 per cent of British films of which lo per cent must, be Australian. and that no exhibitor or lessee should be allowed to contract for hire or renting of a film until it was passed by the Commonwealth Censor. JVIr Lazzarini said that he would see Jf it were possible to pass a short measure this session. He thought it might be better to start with a certain minimum percentage of Australian and British films and leave power for it to be increased as the industry progressed.
