Sir William and Laxly Sim will, arrive here on Saturday oil their way to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Daigety are staying in Dunedin. Mrs Charles Reid has returned from Dunedin. Mr and Mrs Alan .ludson have returned from a brief visit to Temuka. Mrs Robjohns left yesterday for Napier. after spending a holiday in Dunedin and Christchurch. Mr and Mrs G. J. Pyne. who have been visiting Orari. have returned to this city. Mrs A. E. Fox. River Road, sailed by the Manuka on a hlielay to Australia. accompanied by her little daughter. Mr and Mrs R. 11. Johnston (Duiisandel) and Miss Brown (Christchurch), are spending a holiday on the \\ cst Coast. Mrs Adams and Miss Margaret Adams will accompany Mr Justice Adams to Wellington to-day. where they will be staying for a month. Sir George and Lady Clifford and Mr Walter Clifford are leaving for Wellington by to-night’s ferry boat. Mrs and Miss Hunter-Weston arrived from Timaru yesterday and are staying at the United Service Hotel on their way to llanmer.

Shannon is visiting relatives at Greymouth. Mr and Mrs R. W. Morrow have returned to town after visiting relations and friends in Ashburton. Miss Kathleen Bristed has returned from Dunedin and will stay with Mrs Cheviot Bell in Wellington for the Heretaunga meeting. Miss Halmai Loughnan will be stay-, in g with Mrs Bernard Wood during the Heretaunga tournament. Miss M. Loughnan. Fairlie, is staying with Mrs George Harper. Mr and Mrs F. H. Kester, visitors from Ontario, arc staying at the United Service Hotel. Mr and Mrs W. P. M'Carthy arrived from Greymouth this morning and are at the United Service Hotel. Mrs W. L. Cunningham has returned to Oxford after a ■ hort visit to Christchurch. The Cathedral Grammar School sports take place in the cricket grounds, Hospital Corner, on Thursday, October 2S. An enjoyable evening to celebrate the coming-of-age of Miss E. Nelson was spent at the residence of her parents, Richfield Farm, Fernside. The hall was decorated with blue and gold streamers and evergreens. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr J. Whitham and extras were played by Miss M. Comyns, D. Smith, F. Stringer and J. Nelson and Mr R. Chamberlain (Christchurch). Competitions were won by Mrs T. Anderson (Christchurch), Misses F. Stringer, J. Stringer and Mr R. Chamberlain. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss D. A barrow fair was opened on Wednesday afternoon by the Rev. H. Sharp at the Lin wood Methodist Church Hall. The barrows were prettily decorated and well laden with useful articles, brisk business being done at all sessions. The fair was continued in the evening and on Tliursdav evening. The stallholders were: Work, Mrs Bock and Kirs Nixon: cake. Kirs Duggan and Mrs Gasson; toy, Mrs Berry and Kirs Francis; produce, Mrs Birks and Kirs Stokes; flowers, Kirs Harrington and Miss Bartlett; sweets. Senior Girls’ Bible Class; variety, Mr S. Harrington; refreshments, Mrs Browne and Kirs Chesterton; ice cream, softs drinks and pies, Senior Boys’ Bible Class.

The members of the Akaroa Presbyterian Bible Class Union recently held an enjoyable social evening in the Sunday Schoolroom. An enjoyable time was spent in games, music and competitions. Musical items were rendered by Kliss W. Parnham (piano), and Messrs M. Davidson and C. Parnham (violins). Miss Coral Williams was the winner of an amusing competition. During the evening the Rev F. J. Tvlce made a presentation to Miss Winnie Parnham, who was leaving Akaroa. Among those present were: Mrs W. Pool, Misses Fvfe, Nancy Klunro, N. Couper, B. Mason, Olsen, Marjorie Pctterson.
