MAN IS SERIOUSLY INJURED WHEN FIRE ENGINE CAPSIZES.
DRIVER SWERVED TO AVOID MOTOR-CAR. (Special to the “Star.") AUCKLAND, July 23. A sensational accident which resulted in one man being seriously injured and two others slightly hurt, occurred at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Remuera Road this morning when the Remuera Fire Brigade engine capsized through the bursting of the right rear tyre. The names of the injured are:—D. Catley (driver), head and bodv injuries. A. Xoou, body and facial injuries. G. Sanderson, minor cuts * and shock. Captain Robertson, who was following the fire engine, states that as the brigade approached the CTonburn Road corner a motor car turned into Remuera Rpfid. The driver of the fire, engine swerved out to avoid hitting him and there was a terrific report, as the right rear tyre of the engine burst. It swayed and drunkenly proceeded for. about twenty yards, when the wheels caught in the flange of tramway points and capsized the machine, wT — -h swung completely round. It stopped near the curb facing the direction it was coming from. The driver and 1 § eman Noon were pinned beneath the machine, while Fireman Sanderson was flung clear. ’
