LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION DISCUSSES LOCARNO PACT.

At a meeting of the League of Nations Union held last night in the V.W.C.A., there was a good attendance for an open discussion on the Locarno Pact. The leaders were scheduled to be Professor J' B Condliftc. Messrs W. Airey and Donald Grant, but the firstnamed was unable to attend. Interesting addresses were given by Mr |Airev and Mr Grant. Mr Airey dealt* 1 with the steps which had been taken in Europe to secure lasting peace, and stressed the point that the Versailles Treaty definitelv stated that the aim was to make it safe for the Powers to disarm. “ The League Council was to prepare the way for disarmament, but the speaker pointed out that France was not content with a general guarantee of security under the Covenant, but pointed out that the country would accept an understanding if guaranteed support from U.S.A. and Great Britain in the event of renewed German which lapsed by the n attitude taken by America Mr Airev traversed subsequent activities, dealing at length with the general protocol. Mr Donald Grant spoke more of the treaty between Russia and Germany. pointing out that each was in an unusual position a| far as the League was concerned. He expressed the opinion that the treaty was quite harmless and its purpose was to promote peace politically and economically.
