OIL STORES AT LYTTELTON.
“ TRADE SHOULD BE CAPTURED.” Dr Thacker, at to-day's meeting of the Lvttelton Harbour Board, moved that a motion of June 16 last m regard to petrol storage should be rescinded and that a comprehensive report on oil storage should be submitted by the engineer. , ~ , Dr Thacker said there should be a definite poliev between the board ana the Railway Department. The Government should be asked to come to an arrangement by which oil storage should be on Kaye and Carter s site. Mr G. Scott seconded the motion. Mr F. Horrell said that if the hoard was not very careful it would lose the oil business altogether. The board should encourage all possible trade. Mr W. T. Lester said that if Lyttelton lost the present opportunity to erect oil stores, it might not , have another opportunity. He would not like to see the oil go out of Lyttelton on account of using a particular site. Mr M. J. Miller said that the board should do its best to capture that trade. The motion was lost.
