POLITICAL CRISIS IS COMING NOW!

“TEA FOR TYPISTES BILL,” WILL BE DISCUSSED. The widespread interest felt in events political is mftking itself evident in ail circles. The latest manifestation is the following Bill, which will be debated by a local club next week: A BILL TO BE ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW ZEALAND IN MOCKERY ASSEMBLED, AND BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE SAME AS FOLLOWS T—The Short Title of this Bill is “The Tea for Typistes Bill, 1926.” 2.—ln this Bill, if not inconsistent with the context: ACTION means any proceeding in a Court, civil or uncivil. EMPLOYER means a proprietor of any office, shop or factory, who employs a typiste whether for furtherance of his business or for private gain. OFFICE means business premises or a portion of any business premises in which an employer finds need or excuse to employ a typiste. PREMISES means the building containing a business office or business offices. TEA means a non-alcoholic beverage, the component parts of which shall be boiling water, tea leaves, with milk and sugar added to suit a typiste’s taste.

TYPISTE means any female manipulator of a typewriter or other female engaged cither in clerical work, or as a decoration, or for any other useful purpose in an office. “TEA TIMES.” 3. (a) Every employer of a typiste or typistes shall cause to be set apart the thirty minutes of the forenoon immediately preceding the hour of eleven o’clock ante meridian and the thirty minutes of the afternoon immediately preceding the hour of four o’clock post meridian. (b) Such times as must be set apart by sub-section “A * of this Section shall be known as, and hereinafter referred to, as “ Tea Times.” (c) During each and every “Tea Time” shall be at liberty: 1. To make and imbibe tea. 2. To eat and digest biscuits and cakes. 3. To disport themselves in whatsoever other manner as they may deem pleasing. (d) During each and e\*erv “ Tea Time ” no employer shall force any typiste to do any manner of work other than those tasks permitted in and specified by Clauses 1. 2 and 3 of Sub-Section “C ” of this Section, nor shall any employer worry, annoy or in any way interfere with a typiste during a “ Tea Time. ” APPARATUS. 4 (a) Every employer shall provide, and himself pay for, sufficient kettles, hot water bottles, tea pots, cups, saucers, spoons, plates and such other articles as may reasonably be deemed necessary for the making and dispensing of tea. (b) Every employer shall provide, and himself pay for, a copious supply

of pure water, and such water shall not be drawn from any toilet basin. (c;) Every e*npl n yer shall provide, and himself pay for and maintain, sufficient heating apparatus for the boiling of water, that tea may be made, and that the utensils may be washed by the typistes, and sufficient sinks, bath, soaps, dish cloths, and towels shall be provided for the cleaning of them. FOOD. (a) Ever 3' employer shall provide, and pay for, the amounts of liquids and food-stuffs set out in the Schedule hereunder written : Schedule : Amount for each typiste for each “Tea Time”:— Water —1 pint. Tea Leaves—l level teaspoonful. Milk —A-pint. Sugar—lo lumps (standard size). Biscuits —Six (to weigh in all not less than 6oz). $ Cakes —Two cream cakes, two Kisses, and two plain cakes (to weigh in all not less than 8oz). (b) Any employer, without incurring any penalty, may provide, over and above the bare necessities specified in the Schedule to Sub-Section “ A ” of this Section, Ice-Creams and Fruit in season, or any other fattening foods that fulfil the requirements of “The Pure Foods Act, 1908." WAGES. 6. No employer shall . reduce the wages of any typiste on account of the stoppage of work necessitated by a “ Tea Time.” nor shall he make any typiste work for any extra time on account of any such stoppage of work. PENALTIES. (a) The maximum penalty for any breach of these regulations shall be a fine of £2O. (V)) Proceedings under this Bill shall be summary..
