HE AND BARDSLEY COLLARED BOWLING.

PLAY STOPPED AFTER ANOTHER RAIN STORM By Telegraph.—Press A ssn.—Copy right. Reuter's Telegrams. (Received Tune 24. Noon.) LONDON. June 23. The weather was line and the wicket good after a dry spell. Collins won the toss. This is the first match against Derbyshire since 1919 when Derbyshire was the only county to defeat the Australians. The Australian team is:—Collins, Bardsley, Oldfield, Taylor, Andrews, Everett, Mailey. Ryder, Grimmett, Woodful 1 and Richardson. The Derbyshire team is:—Gu>‘ Jackson, Antony Jackson, CrommelinBrown. Lee, Bowden. Townsend, Storer, Hutchinson, Worthington, Cressweli and Elliott. The attendance was 5000. After a couple of maidens Bardsley opened the score with a strong boundary cut from Worthington, who with Antony Jackson, commenced the attack. Worthington proved difficult to play, but Jackson was easier. 11 is pace was good but his length eccentric. Cresswell gave little trouble. Collins received the lion’s share of

the bowling. He played stylishly and was more enterprising than Bardsley When the latter was 18 he survived a confident appeal for a catch at the wicket. The score mounted rapidly, mainly at the expense of Storer. The bowling was changed frequently, but now presented no difficulties to Collins and Bardsley, who gave a fine exhibition of correct cricket. Collins’s display was his brightest of the tour. It added just that sparkle which converts his cricket from a dull ceremony to an attractive performance. He was eventually well taken at short leg, Worthington falling forward to effect the catch. The Australian skipper's score included fourteen fours. The first -wicket had yielded 161 in two hours. Andrews began briskly and quickly rattled up a score. He and Bardsley were occasionally guilty of mistiming. Worthington was the only bowler to create anxious moments and he secured Andrews's wicket after he had been in twenty-five minutes, during which he hit five fours. The storm which had been threatening since lunch broke at 4.30. The ground became waterlogged and play was abandoned for the day. Scores:— AUSTRALIA. First Innings. H. L.
