MAMMY’S DARLINGS STAND POOR CHANCE OF MAKING GOOD.
“ DO AS YOU’RE TOLD ” IS BAD SLOGAN, SAYS LABOUR M.P. LONDON', June 9. “Too much instinctive obedience leads to slave mentality," said Colonel J. C. Wedgwood, M.P. (Labour), addressing the Chief Constables’ Conference at the Guildhall. “I am glad Britishers are the least law-abiding race on earth," he added. “We want a nation with a master mentality. We have it more than any race, except. perhaps, the Scots. ‘Mammy's Darlings’ stand a pobr chance of making good, and it is the same thing with nations. ‘Do as you're told’ is a bad slogan for children and for the race." The chief constable of Norwich said he was convinced it was hard to find naturally bad boys. Members of young gangs were nearly always full of charm, heroism, and righteousness. Badness in boys was usually fhe result of latent energy. The chief constable of Newport considered that a part of a boy’s education was to thrash him.
