NO REINSTATEMENT FOR LEAGUE PLAYERS; MOTION DEFEATED.

AUCKLAND RUGBY UNION DISCUSSES READMISSION QUESTION. (Special to the “Star.") AUCKLAND, June 24. The question of adopting a definite policy of considering applications for reinstatement was discussed by the Auckland Rugby' Union last evening in accordance with the notice of motion of Mr J. G. O’Brien (full-back for New Zealand from 1914 to 1920). who moved “That dating from July 1, 1926, the union declines readmission to anv player who, being over the age of twenty-one, leaves the code to play League subsequent to that date, excepting to the special case, when such player is living in a district where no Rugby was played at the time of his defection.” Mr C. Anderson seconded the motion. Several members, including • the chairman (Mr H. Frost) stated a preference for considering every application on its merits. Mr W. A. Gray thought that without tying its hands the committee might adopt the rule suggested in the motion as a guide. Mr Frost: It amounts to the same thing. Mr Anderson said that the public was getting the impression that the Rugby* Union was taking back all the players it could get. He contended that the union at present had no policy in the question. The motion was lost, only' the proposer and seconder and Mr Belcher voting in favour of it.
